The B\u2019AI Global Forum will hold a talk by Dr. Karen Shimakawa entitled \u201cBodies, Affects, and Algorithms: AI and the Challenge of Live Performance\u201d on January 10th, 2024.

\nOne of the characteristics of live performance is its unpredictability — the possibility for surprising, unintended outcomes and non-quantifiable elements (affects, or what performers often refer to as “energy” or “presence”).\u00a0 Performers (especially “experimental” artists) often seek to express feelings, ideas, and bodily sensations that are difficult to articulate or align with existing “data.”\u00a0 This paper is the beginning of an investigation into the ways live performance uses, and sometimes escapes capture by, AI.\u00a0 How are body-based artists critiquing, engaging with, and exploring the potential of these new technologies?<\/p>\n
