{"id":4016,"date":"2026-03-12T12:16:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T03:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baiforum.jp\/en\/?p=4016"},"modified":"2026-03-13T12:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T03:32:09","slug":"re145","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baiforum.jp\/en\/report\/re145\/","title":{"rendered":"Report on the Trauma Reporting Study Group for 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/baiforum.jp\/en\/projects\/trauma_reporting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Trauma Reporting Study Group<\/a> concluded its five years of activity in the 2025 academic year, during which it held regular study sessions as well as a symposium. In August 2025, thirteen members who volunteered to take part\u2014including Kawahara\u2014visited Australia as an extension of the study group\u2019s work and participated in a four\u2011day intensive training program on Trauma\u2011Informed Journalism conducted by the Dart Centre Asia Pacific (DCAP), further strengthening their ties with the Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings 27 to 29 were held online. In Meetings 27 and 28, members presented on the Korean Journalist Trauma Guidebook and a survey of journalists, followed by discussion. Meeting 29 introduced the findings of the international study <em>The Chilling: A Global Study of Online Violence Against Women Journalists <\/em>(2022) and reviewed a Japanese translation of <em>Five Tips Protecting Yourself Against TFTBV <\/em>(2024), a resource created by DCAP to help journalists protect themselves from technology\u2011facilitated, gender\u2011based violence.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese translation of the \u201cFive Tips\u201d was completed in March 2026, following the DCAP training in August, and was shared with the Centre for Journalism and Trauma Asia Pacific (CJT), formerly the Dart Centre Asia Pacific (name changed in November 2025).<\/p>\n<p>Meeting 30 was held in person. We invited Professor Yutaka Matsui, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tsukuba (social psychology), and held a study session on disaster reporting and journalists\u2019 stress.<\/p>\n<p>The concluding symposium, <em>Toward Trauma\u2011Informed Journalism Practice, <\/em>was held in a hybrid format, both in person and online. The symposium consisted of two parts, with Part I featuring a lecture by Amantha Perera, Director and Consultant at CJT, titled \u201cGet me my Digital Flak Jacket!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Part II consisted of reports. Associate Professor Lee Misook of Otsuma Women\u2019s University presented \u201cThe impact on journalists covering trauma \u2014 Findings from a Japan\u2013Korea survey.\u201d This was followed by reports from the \u201cAssociation of Journalists in Japan Learning about Trauma Reporting,\u201d formed by members who participated in the training in Australia, titled \u201cReport on the Australia Training\u201d and \u201cOur Declaration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Including those who viewed the recordings afterward, approximately 200 people registered for the event.
