From August 23 to August 29, 2021, Project Researcher Atsuko Sano from the B’AI Global Forum participated in the academic exchange session, which was a part of the China-Japan Youth Elite Program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Tokyo. In this session, Dr. Sano provided lectures and led discussions on digital transformation and gender equality for the students of the both universities.

On April 24, 2021, the first BAIRAL research meeting for 2021 was held on Zoom. BAIRAL invited members of a research project that develops a dictionary for deaf children by using deep learning. In this talk event, the translation between (spoken) Japanese and Japanese Sign Language was provided with support from Meisei Gakuen.

He talked about the use of crowdsourcing geographic information systems (GIS) in Japan, especially about its relationship with fairness, equality, and diversity in society.

Dr. Phebe Vayanos, Assistant Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering and Computer Science, University of Southern California, talked about algorithmic fairness particularly as it is applied in public health interventions.
