Abstract

In this talk, the members of project “Sign Language to Dictionary,” a Japanese-language learning dictionary for deaf children using machine learning, will introduce the process of developing “Sign Language to Dictionary.”

The project has been conducted by language education researchers, teachers at a school for the deaf, engineers, and various other specialists. They have created a learning dictionary that allows deaf children whose first language is Japanese Sign Language (JSL) to look up Japanese words from JSL, with the aim of enabling them to write in Japanese what they can say in JSL.

This talk will share the actual use of the “Sign Language to Dictionary” by deaf children, and deepen the discussion with the participants on the current issues and how to solve them.
