BAIRALB’AI RA League

BAIRAL (B’AI RA League) is a study group by young research assistants (RA) of the B’AI Global Forum of the Institute for AI and Beyond at the University of Tokyo. Aiming to achieve gender equality and a guarantee of rights for minorities in the AI era, this study group examines relationships between digital information technology and society. BAIRAL organizes monthly research meetings with guest speakers in a variety of fields.

Guest Speaker

Yosuke Suzuki (Nikkei America, Inc. He joined Nikkei Inc. in 2001. After working on editing online media, reporting for newspapers, and planning and developing electronic editions, he has been stationed in the U.S. since 2018.)

Issei Mori (Intern at Nikkei America, Inc. He is now studying computer science at the University of California, Santa Cruz.)

 

Abstract

“JournalismAI” is a collaborative project of media organizations around the world, which is based in the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the UK as the office. It is gathering case studies and know-how on how to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in media organizations, and conducting experiments together. From Japan, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc. in Japan participated in the project, and especially worked on the development of image analysis technology in a team focused on the clarification of “newsroom biases” and its solutions. In this talk, Mr. Yosuke Suzuki who participated in the project from Nihon Keizai Shimbun will talk about it.
