Abstract

Fake news has become a social issue since the spread of the Internet, and was a much discussed topic in last year’s U.S. presidential election. The spread of inaccurate information on the Internet has become a serious problem in Japan, and in recent years, there have been some online media and mass media that began to “fact check” information on social media. In this talk, Kota Hatachi, who worked at the Asahi Shimbun and now is a reporter for a web news company called BuzzFeed JAPAN, will talk about the differences in reporting and publishing methods between newspapers and online media, as well as his active approach to fact-checking.
