Abstract

AI has been increasingly adopted in national security. Since the 2010s, cybersecurity has become a key issue in international relations. Cyberattacks have enhanced AI. Furthermore, the proliferation of AI is giving rise to killer robots (LAWS: Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems). The use of AI in a military context is unstoppable, and killer robots are becoming a threat that could become a new genocidal weapon.

In this talk, Mr. Sato will introduce the current status of cybersecurity and killer robots (LAWS), and the actions of NGOs opposing this trend and discuss the use of AI from the viewpoint of international security relations.
