A Translation Project Undertaken by Members of the Trauma Reporting Study Group Has Now Reached Publication!

A Japanese translation of Trauma Reporting: A Journalist’s Guide to Covering Sensitive Stories by Jo Healey—read and discussed within the Trauma Reporting Study Group (https://baiforum.jp/projects/trauma_reporting/)—will be published by Iwanami Shoten on March 27. The translated volume is titled in Japanese トラウマを聴く前に　知っておきたい10のこと—当事者の声と取材者の実践 (Before Listening to Trauma: Ten Things You Need to Know — Voices of Survivors and Practices of Journalists, written by Jo Healey, edited and translated by Michiko Kawahara).

Two members of the study group, Professor Kaori Hayashi and NHK’s Daisuke Ōno, have contributed essays to the Japanese edition:

– “Trauma Reporting — From the perspective of the Ethics of Care”
Kaori Hayashi (Professor, Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, The University of Tokyo)

– “A Protective Charm for Reporting in Disaster‑Affected Areas”
(Experiences related to the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent initiatives within the broadcasting station)
