The 8th BAIRAL Research Meeting for 2021 Report on “Thinking about the Potential and Challenges of Data Journalism from the Perspective of the Frontline”

On March 15, 2022, BAIRAL invited Mr. Kazuki Ogiwara from the SmartNews Media Research Institute. He talked about his efforts so far, basic knowledge on data journalism, and the situation regarding data utilization and journalism in Japan.

The 1st BAIRAL Research Meeting for 2022 Report on “How far Can VR Make People Empathize?: Its Limitations and How to Use It”

On April 27, 2022, BAIRAL invited Mr. Yuji Hatada and Mr. Ryu Kudoh from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo. They introduced the educational materials for a diversity training program using virtual reality (VR), which they are involved in developing, and led a discussion with participants on the uses and limitations of VR technology and the impact of the empathy brought about by VR on people.

Report on a Visit to the Dialogue Diversity Museum “Dialogue Forest (Taiwa no Mori)”

On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, the B'AI Global Forum visited the Dialogue Diversity Museum “Dialogue Forest (Taiwa no Mori),” known as the first museum in Japan where diversity can be entertained as a fun. This report introduces the experiences at “Dialogue in the Dark,” which allows visitors to experience a world in absolute darkness, and “Dialogue in Silence,” which allows visitors to experience a world in complete silence, the lecture by Mr. Shinsuke Shimura, Dialogue in the Dark Japan Founder, and the impressions of the students who participated in this field trip.

Report on the Trauma Reporting Study Group for 2021

The Trauma Reporting Study Group held eight reading sessions in FY2021. The book that we’ve been reading is Trauma Reporting: A Journalist's Guide to Covering Sensitive Stories (Jo Healey, 2019), which provides detailed and concrete recommendations based on the experiences of veteran reporters in the UK and other countries and those who have been interviewed after they or their families have suffered traumatic events.
